Abstract

This study aims to develop a Scrabble-based learning medium for teaching Arabic vocabulary and to determine its feasibility and effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes. The background of this study is based on the problem that vocabulary instruction is still dominated by rote memorization and the use of textbooks, which causes students to forget quickly, be less active, and easily become bored. Therefore, there is a need for innovative learning media that are interactive and enjoyable. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model proposed by Robert Maribe Branch, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study sample consisted of 31 students. The research instruments comprised an expert validation sheet as well as pretest and post-test assessments to measure improvements in learning outcomes. The validation results indicate that the developed Scrabble-based learning medium is suitable for use in instruction. The pilot test results show an increase in students’ average scores from 73 on the pretest to 87 on the posttest, representing a 14-point improvement. Thus, the Scrabble-based medium is effective in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery and can serve as an innovative and participatory alternative for Arabic language instruction.
