Abstract

Multiculturalism is an educational concept that emphasises acceptance and appreciation of the cultural, linguistic, religious, and identity diversity of learners. Islamic university in Indonesia serve as spaces where diverse social and religious backgrounds intersect; therefore, Arabic language instruction within these institutions cannot be separated from such multicultural dynamics. Nevertheless, many practices in Arabic language teaching remain uniform in nature and have not fully recognised student diversity as a pedagogical asset. This article aims to analyse the integration of multicultural perspectives in the teaching of Arabic at Islamic higher education institutions, encompassing students’ socio-cultural contexts, pedagogical strategies, and the relevance of instructional materials used, particularly Silsilah Ta‘lim al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah. The study employs a library-based research method with content analysis of literature related to multicultural education, Arabic language pedagogy, and the strengthening of religious moderation. The findings indicate the importance of learning approaches that value the diversity of students’ learning backgrounds, the adaptation of teaching materials to better represent the Indonesian local context, and the role of lecturers as facilitators of diversity and inclusivity within the Arabic language classroom. The originality of this study lies in its effort to link the principles of multiculturalism with a specific analysis of the use of Silsilah Ta‘lim al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah, which has rarely been examined from the perspective of inclusive education in Islamic higher education institutions. This research contributes to the development of a more inclusive, humanistic, and contextually relevant model of Arabic language learning that aligns with the spirit of Islam rahmatan lil-‘alamin and the agenda of religious moderation in Islamic higher education.
