Abstract

Translating Arabic texts is a fundamental skill that must be mastered by students of Arabic, as it involves accurate vocabulary comprehension, deep contextual understanding, and appropriate transfer of meaning from the source language to the target language. Translation competence is essential to support students’ reading comprehension and overall language proficiency. Along with the rapid advancement of educational technology, digital dictionaries have increasingly been utilized as effective learning tools to assist translation activities, one of which is the Almaany Digital Dictionary. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Almaany Digital Dictionary in improving the quality of Arabic text translation among eleventh-grade students at SMA Swasta Riyadhussholihiin. The research employed a mixed-methods approach that integrated quantitative and qualitative data through an experimental research design. Two groups were involved: an experimental group that used the Almaany Digital Dictionary during translation activities and a control group that relied on conventional learning methods. The research instruments consisted of translation tests evaluated based on four criteria: accuracy, communicativeness, coherence, and contextual appropriateness. These quantitative data were supported by student interviews to gain deeper insights into learners’ experiences. The findings demonstrate a significant difference between the two groups, with the experimental group achieving higher average translation scores. The effectiveness analysis indicates that the Almaany Digital Dictionary is highly effective in enhancing students’ translation quality from linguistic, communicative, and contextual perspectives. These results confirm the important role of digital dictionaries as technology based learning media in developing Arabic translation skills at the secondary education level.
